Employing Support Workers

Westcountry Case Management Ltd is registered with the Care Quality Commission, who monitors our services, policies and procedures in relation to the employment of support workers.

Although our case managers are not employers we aim to deal with all of the practical issues regarding the employment of support workers. Below are some of the ways we can help to find train and keep in post the right support worker for individual clients.

• Prepare a detailed job description.
• Advertise in the job centre and / or most appropriate publication.
• Handle job applicant enquiries, send out application forms and chase responses if necessary.
• Arrange interviews, offer jobs and inform unsuccessful candidates.
• Obtain at least two references.
• Obtain an enhanced CRB disclosure via an umbrella organisation.
• Advise employer on action required to keep within employment and health and safety regulations.
• Set up the payroll and check support worker timesheets if required.
• Carry out appropriate induction, shadow shifts and appraisals.
• Compile risk assessments and a detailed client service user plan.
• Monitor the support worker via supervision.
• Provide a statement of terms and conditions for the support worker.
• Compile a house file is provided which contains information and procedures for the support worker and other documents relating to their employment.
• Ensure the support worker has appropriate training
