Since graduating as an occupational therapist in 1976, Janet has gained wide clinical experience in rehabilitation to minimise occupational dysfunction and optimise an individual’s ability to function. She has worked in adult inpatient and community settings with people with physical, cognitive, and mental health difficulties.
Janet has held a number of professional advisory roles and prepared expert witness court reports, providing guidance in the type and cost of rehabilitation and care needs for people following personal injury.
In her role as a case manager with WCM, Janet works with adults with acquired brain injury and/or mental health difficulties setting up and managing personalised community rehabilitation. She identifies the life roles, activities, and occupations important to the individual which may have been disrupted by trauma. Janet collaborates with the client, therapists, family members and carers to identify plans, strategies, and appropriate goals for focused rehabilitation. She works closely with a client to help motivate change and promote occupational balance for long term well-being.
Janet also provides an independent service of occupational life coaching, which uses an ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) framework and Motivational Interviewing to empower and support an individual’s own skills, knowledge, and successful engagement in the activities, occupations, and life roles they value.
Janet brings empathy and humour, plus experience to assist clients, family members, carers, and other professionals in this work.
